RAGAMUF employes Syrian refugee women
Today, Jinja is going to talk about a beautiful project, as not only produces gorgeous handmade stretchy chair rugs but also help Syrian refugee women near the Syrian border in Turkey. They hire women without a livelihood to enable them to live fulfilling, independent lives.
Every RAGAMUF is a unique piece of art designed by a successful Finnish designer Tuula Pöyhönen. Each stretchy chair rug fits different shapes and sizes of chairs. Made by hand from knitted rag, which is produced from textile surplus. More over you can choose it´s colour and shape. RAGAMUF is sold online to keep the prices reasonable and to employ as many women as possible.

Syria’s civil war has created the worst humanitarian crisis of our time. Half the country’s pre-war population – more than 11 million people – have been killed or forced to flee their homes. Empowering people to survive through crisis and build better lives is only possible with our support.
Women living in the middle of the war zone have been put in a very weak position so they need our support. Employing mothers enables children to receive an education which is necessary for building a better future for their families and the society. The women are found with the help of their local humanitarian organisation partner in Turkey. They hire them straight through their Turkish subsidiary Ragamuf Production. At Ragamuf each woman is paid a fair wage for each finished product.
Since the project do not have traditional investors. Instead, they look for reaching the community by asking their support on Indiegogo (a crowdfunding platform that helps teams raise money for their projects and products, and it is the key for their international visibility, which enables to employ as many Syrian refugee women as possible. It also helps RAGAMUF to enter the international retail market.
Nevertheless they are working on making RAGAMUF available for retail via their own website in 2017. The expected retail price will be much higher than Indiegogo launch price so don´t miss out this opportunity to help this project while owning a beautiful stretchy chair rug. Why not cover that old chair you are not fond of anymore?
