Plastic wrap or cling wrap, is commonly used in our kitchens to sealing food containers or leftovers and it is made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or polyvinylidene chloride (PVdC).
Some studies refer health problems regarding phtahlates ( a chemical plasticizers that make PVC softer and more flexible), cause that can pass into food. Other big problem of this material, is that only a few recycling centers can recyled it ( in Portugal is not possibl e) so it ends up in lanfills or the sea.
But a natural alternative to plastic wrap appear by the hands of Sarah Kaeck. She created Bee’s Wrap, pieces of organic cotton with beeswax, organic jojoba oil, and tree resin with the aim of eliminate plastic from our kitchens and turn it more sustainable. Bee’s Wraps are washable, reusable and compostable. And very easy to used cause food can be seal by the warmth of our hands. Watch the video to see it in action.
